False Jesus silent on homosexuality
Are we wrong about homosexuality being compatible with Biblical sexual integrity?
In USA Today, Oliver Thomas, a Baptist minister posits that question with a hypothetical announcement: “Despite what you might have read, heard or been taught throughout your churchgoing life, homosexuality is, in fact, determined at birth and is not to be condemned by God’s followers.”
Thomas’ premise is that someday the church (or religious leaders as he puts it) will discover its error and then due to “science” lose its credibility. He compares the Christian rejection of homosexuality to Galileo’s persecution upon his revelation of the earth’s place in the solar system. Likewise, now, Thomas says “millions” (of homosexuals) are being persecuted. Therefore, he concludes, the church is wrong about homosexuality. In addition, Thomas constructs his highly subjective preposition on the favorite cliche of the gay christian movement.
“For those who have lingering doubts, dust off your Bibles and take a few hours to reacquaint yourself with the teachings of Jesus. You won’t find a single reference to homosexuality. There are teachings on money, lust, revenge, divorce, fasting and a thousand other subjects, but there is nothing on homosexuality. Strange, don’t you think, if being gay were such a moral threat?”
“Jesus said nothing about homosexuality?” Absolutely, the false Jesus, erected to preside over the adherents of gay christianity remained completely silent on homosexuality. This false savior could not and would not upset the sensitivities of a tolerance driven religion. If we argued from a purely human perspective, then perhaps we are wrong about homosexuality. The truth is we (Thomas included) are wrong about a lot of things. Man’s emerging knowledge is at best something seen though a glass darkly. That is the frailty of the human condition. Certainly, no one could claim to possess nor equal the omniscience of God. Which is precisely why Christians should rely on God to tell us what His standards are for sexual conduct and thought? Without the benefit of a cohesive, written record from God we are left to determine on our own what God does and does not want. Imagine what America would be like without its constitution?
There are two immutable qualities about God which must influence everything we do and say regarding moral issues, particularly sexual.
1. God does not change. He is the same today, yesterday and forevermore (Heb 13:8). Jesus (the authentic one) said that his sole purpose was to accomplish the will of the Father. Therefore, God’s express will regarding sexual purity and sexual relationships were not superceded by Christ.
2. God’s word will not change. He has spoken it, confirmed it and settled it.
Those who spread false doctrine reveal their true nature by their words. Their allegiance is never to God, Christ or the Word of God. It always highlights the airbrushed opinions of humanity and attempts to place them on equal footing with the Bible. We find it telling that gay christian ministers quickly divert attention away from what the Bible says and instead superimpose humanist ideology. They are like the Old Testament priest Aaron, who in the absence of Moses gave the people what they wanted: A false god which would allow them to act out the lustful and depraved excesses of their hearts (Exodus 32:1-22). It too, stood silent as the disobedient Isrealites carried out their blasphemy.
In contrast, God’s loving commands challenge us to reach for the very highest in thought and deed. Why would we not want to please our Heavenly Father? Why wouldn’t we want to conform our ways to align with his Word? One reason stands out. Like the rebellious people in the wilderness, some people want a new god. A silent god. A god who replaces santification with satisfaction.
The truth is that sexual immorality —whether homosexual or heterosexual— is far beneath the perfect plan of God.
Rev. Thomas’ Galileo comparison demonstrates wishful thinking, but nothing more. The shape or position of the earth is not an equitable comparison to sexual behavior. Perhaps the question should not be are we wrong about homosexuality, but is God wrong about homosexuality?
But don’t expect an answer from the false Jesus.
