It probably goes without saying thousands of young impressionable gospel singers are “fans” of Crystal Aikin, the 2007 winner of BET’s “Sunday Best” gospel industry talent show.  But would it surprise you to know that Aikin, having not yet recorded an album, is already afraid of what homosexuals in the gospel music industry could do to her potential career?

Perhaps that is why Aikin agreed to perform at the opening building dedication of a local homosexual church. GCM Watch attemtped to contact the 32 year old Aikin for her explanation of why she performed in July 2007 at Vision Church, but it wasn’t until we posted a public appeal to her, that we received a call from her manager.  Whether she intended to or not, much was revealed about the state of the contemporary black gospel music industry.

Aikin’s manager, who did not want her name on the record,  offered several conflicting scenarios of why Aikin sang at the church.

Her initial reason was that Aikin was invited by a friend, but didn’t know the church was a gay church.  ”If she found out, she couldnt just walk out on people”, she protested. According to self published church demographics, Vision church is comprised of 55% homosexual men, which would make it an unusual black church under any circumstances. That would be difficult aspect of the church to miss.

The unnamed manager said that gospel artists don’t like talking against homosexuality because “their words are taken out of context.” ”

“Everytime they say something, somebody takes it out of context and so they just dont want to address it,” she said. Do they do that on all issues, I asked or just homosexuality? Just homosexuality, she replied. Again its difficult to understand why a person (Aikin) is already afraid to simply say what the Bible says about homosexuality.  When asked if standing with God’s word was more important than a performer’s public image, the manager said she didn’t know.

Reading Crystal Aikin’s public comments about her talent, one gets the impression that she is a force to be reckoned with. “I don’t sing for myself at all. Before I get on stage, I pray. I believe there’s something on my voice that causes deliverance and healing”, she said in a BET interview.

The anonymous manager said that living on the West Coast, they (she and Aikin) didnt know anything about gay churches in Atlanta. That’s either a fairly naive statement or an outright lie. The west coast is dotted with homosexual churches.

She was asked if Ms Aikin believed that homosexuality was a sin and again she refused to respond until she “talked with Crystal”.

When asked if Ms Aikin would object to her picture being on the website of a gay church as a “guest psalmist” (see web shot; first picture is from Aikin’s myspace page), the managet reinterated that she did not know.

The lines drawn by scripture against ungodly fellowshipping with those who preach false doctrine and live unrepentant sexually immoral lifestyles continue to be erased by gospel industry singers who apparently who have a low view of scripture and an even lower christological view. Yet, the church continues buying music and celebrating people who hold a disdain for the very gospel they claim to be singing about. We ask again: Are there ANY GOSPEL MUSIC singers/writers/musicians left that hold God’s Word in proper esteem? Or have all forsaken truth in fear and for money?
