MLK, Jr believed homosexuals could –and should– change
CNN Belief Blog reports that Martin Luther King, Jr believed that homosexuals could –and should– change. A snapshot in time recorded King’s advice to a boy who wrote to him about his homosexual feelings.
Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. was writing an advice column in 1958 for Ebony magazine when he received an unusual letter.
“I am a boy,” an anonymous writer told King. “But I feel about boys the way I ought to feel about girls. I don’t want my parents to know about me. What can I do?”
In calm, pastoral tones, King told the boy that his problem wasn’t uncommon, but required “careful attention.”
“The type of feeling that you have toward boys is probably not an innate tendency, but something that has been culturally acquired,” King wrote. “You are already on the right road toward a solution, since you honestly recognize the problem and have a desire to solve it.”
If Dr. King were alive today, he would be persecuted for these beliefs by liberal white organizations like the Southern Poverty Law Center, who claim that changing from homosexuality is “destructive”.
Tale of two daughters? Bernice King here and then here.
King’s own daughter has openly taken a strong stance against gay activism. In 2005, the Rev. Bernice King led a march to her father’s grave, asking for a constitutional ban on gay marriage.
Bernice, who once attended Bishop Eddie Long’s church, announced that she would begin her own ministry after a homosexual scandal developed in Long’s congregation.
“I’m going to launch a ministry. I’m not calling it a church right now,” she said during an interview with Atlanta radio station Praise 102.5 last year. “What God is showing me doesn’t look like what people are accustomed to.”
At a conference in New Zealand, Bernice spoke about her father’s position on homosexuality saying, “I know deep down in my sanctified soul that he did not take a bullet for same-sex unions.”

Oh no — what will the Left do with that fact? Oh, they’ll just say he would have changed his mind, just like Jesse went from pro-life to pro-abortion. That’s the easy part about being a leftist: You can just make it up as you go along.
GCMW: Neil two things: they will either spin it or ignore it. They have no choice to do anything else.
Interesting to note that the “King Tapes” will be released in a few years and if these tapes are authentic, it may uncover an unfortunate side that Dr. King was allegedly a “womanizer.” His trusted lieutenant, Dr. Ralph Abernathy did speak in his book about it. Why am I mentioning this? Isn’t it interesting to note that when Dr. King married Coretta that she was a “professional singer” and gave up her career to marry Martin. Why is this important? We all know how closely associated all sexual immorality is to music on any level. This is not to say or even hint that Coretta was a closet homosexual. Four kids will easily dispel that notion. Let’s not be naive. However, I am saying that sometimes people do have some sympathy with gay causes even though a person is purported to be, at least in appearance, a Christian. In the CNN blog, they did share that Coretta pretty much vouched for the record that most assuredly, Dr. King would have supported gays. We all know that this is not right because there is no substantiated or documentation, in any form, including constant FBI illegal wire taps of their personal conversations, of such support. Humbly speaking, while a woman may know her husband, I will err on the side of preponderance, that one will never know what’s in the mind of an assassinated man. It was also interesting to note that a trust advisor to Dr. King that was gay, was a close confidant in term of the logistical set up of the marches. Very very interesting.
Thanks again Pastor DL. Great article.

I think that King’s allowance of homosexual activist Bayard Rustin was moreso because Rustin was a nonviolent pacifist type, not because he was gay. That would have been the appealing factor to King. Rustin was someone who could help him reach his goals. Perhaps King was using Rustin just like a lot of ungodly preachers use gays in the church now. Its to achieve selfish goals.
Gays love to trot out King’s association with Rustin as some incontrovertible proof that he was progay. The EVIDENCE doesnt support that. What is suggests is that King knew how to have a friend without loving the friend’s sins.
Regarding King’s own sins and transgressions: it is what it is. And it stands alone in judgment to him. But his counsel to this boy proves that despite all the mess in his own life, he still believed homosexuals could –and should– change. Maybe he even told Rustin the same thing.
Also I must add that Dr. Kings daughter is absolutely against the homosexual agenda, that is why you never hear anything about what she says from the white liberals in the msm.
GCMW: Not so fast.
The gays will literally do anything to attach themselves to the Civil Rights struggle.
As much as I admire Rev.King (and agree with his stance on homosexuality), I think we can all agree that he wasn’t perfect. There was 1 perfect human–Jesus Christ. That’s it. Rev.King was a conflicted, wretched sinner like the rest of us. Unlike most of the rest of us, he was able to effect social change and “make things happen” for many oppressed people.
Another thought crossed my mind while reading this, namely that the PC Police have been so successful that today, if something like this somehow managed to get published in a more or less mainstream publication, controversy would pop up overnight. The blogs would be making snarky comments, gay rights activists would yell and share stories about taunting and homophobia on talk shows and CNN. That’s how ridiculous our culture has become: a common-sense, scripturally, psychologically sound bit of advice such as this would, today, be heretical, blasphemous even.
Well now, I stand corrected and disappointed.
Bernice King – smh… .
John you know when you throw the gays a bone, they reward you with fame, adulation, money and a place in “history”. Bernice seems to be reaching for all of the above and taking the quickest route to get there.
Thanks Gcmwatch for the link on Bernice King. I was like Roberto, thinking she was against homosexual agenda. Now it seems from that article from the link you gave she is into ecumencial movement. Apostasy sure is spreading like wildfire.
All I can say is …WOW!!!! You talk about a 360 degree turn for real.

People: If this is not too far off the topic, does anyone have any cites that can irrefutably show that Dr. King had a born again experience with Jesus
Christ and was not just an accomplished talker of and about the Jesus of the Bible. As a purported preacher of the Word, did Dr. King ever call anyone to repentance of their sins via a personal relationship with Jesus
Christ being God in the flesh?
Lafe the answer is no. MLK jr was pretty much a socialist with a religious veneer.
