In the postmodernist scheme of thinking, people are free to marry whom they will, but doesn’t the bible warn Christians about being “unequally yoked”?
COGIC’s 2013 convocation agenda is out and its peppered with morally questionable COGIC leaders. Which, by the way, happens every year. The 2013 speaker lineup includes Pastor Maria Gardner, a well known personality in COGIC circles.
Gardner divorced Deacon Burnett Thomas and in 2012 the former “Elect Lady” of COGIC’s Evangelism Department married progay apostate Bishop James Langston the nonbiological father of lesbian bishop Yvette Flunder. Langston’s COGIC connections include being brother in law to W.W. Hamilton a former member of the church’s highest governing body, the General Board. But Langston isn’t just a passive bystander to his daughter’s heinous teachings and lifestyle. According to the Flunder’s organizational website, Langston is part of the gay denomination’s “family”.
Flunder’s mother Ruth, accepted the homosexual lie and begin working in the Fellowship until she died in 2007. Ruth Langston’s funeral was a snapshot of the uncomfortable intersection of COGIC and its homosexual offspring. The question is does Gardner also accept the homosexual lie that her new husband espouses?
Despite Gardner’s former years of preaching glory, her life has become littered with sex, divorce and remarriage scandals. It will be interesting to hear what she will “preach” to the COGIC faithful.
Its not clear who chooses speakers for COGIC’s high and holy gatherings, but more and more the speaker lineups are emanating the stench of false teachers. Tragically, like postmodernist influence on culture, the wheels of the organization have been turning slight degrees away from the truth of holiness.
Several rather strange (and tragic) events happened over the last few weeks involving members of the Church of God in Christ denomination.
STOMP JESUS controversy – A professor at Florida Atlantic University who demanded that students write Jesus’ name on a piece of paper and then stomp on it has been placed on administrative leave due to concerns for his personal safety. Deandre Poole, a member of Lighthouse COGIC in Ft Lauderdale came under fire for the bizarre exercise after one student refused to participate and was subsequently threatened with suspension. Poole claims he was “just doing my job”. More here
FOLK STAR GAY controversy – Michelle Shocked was a celebrated folk singer whose schedule was packed with venue appearances around the country. That was until she unexpectedly unleashed on homosexuals and gay marriage during the second half of her concert in San Francisco with a sizeable group of gays in the audience. Shocked sharply rebuked homosexuals and repeated several epithets including telling them “God hates fags”. Shocked is a long time member of West Angeles COGIC pastored by Bishop Charles Blake. The fallout has been even stranger.
EASTER SUNDAY MUSLIM EXECUTION – Members of the Hiawatha COGIC in Ashtabula, Ohio were traumatized after Easter Sunday service when a 25 year old man shot and killed another man outside the church then entered yelling Muslim statements typically associated with executions in the name of Allah. Turns out the shooter, Reshad Riddle was the son of the murder victim. Full story here
You can find Dr. James A. Forbes of New York in pulpits, conventions and gatherings of many holiness-pentecostal denominations. Including his unfettered access to the Church of God in Christ. Forbes was featured at COGIC’s 2012 AIM convention held in Birmingham in June. Forbes conveniently cloaks his acid lies behind the background of being reared in the United Holy Church of America, a holiness Pentecostal denomination began in 1886. His father was a leader for many years in the denomination’s Southern District. His knowledge of the veneer of black church pentecostalism makes him an attractive guest to leaders who have no value for biblical integrity or sexual holiness.
You also may not know that Forbes is a false teacher who brags about his involvement with the homosexual “marriage” perversion. False teachers and perversion go together like a hand in a glove. According to the gay marriage organization Lambda Legal, Forbes is one of their main defenders and supporters. They use his quote on their website and urges supporters to use Forbes’ quote in their gay marriage “talking points”.
“I have officiated at wedding ceremonies for gay couples for 15 years, and I believe that gay marriage will do more for stable families and will not harm one single heterosexual marriage.”
Forbes is going to be a guest speaker for the Metropolitan Community Church for their upcoming convention. If you are unfamiliar with the MCC and its gaggle of sex cultic clerics look here, here and here. Warning: not safe for spiritually weak minds!
These false prophets are just as welcome at the “holiness” meetings as they are at the satanic altars. When leaders such as Bishop Charles Blake give these false teachers access to their churches and especially young people, its like letting a ravenous wolf into a room with lambs. Blake has a history of dancing cheek to cheek in the dark with the homosexuals and their allies but then claiming not to know them when he is exposed.
COGIC’s leader should be ashamed that he continues to undermine the foundations of a once great church. Sadly, with men like Blake at its helm allowing wolves like Forbes into the flock, it wont last much longer.
COGIC used to be guided by a protective truth established in scripture that was foundational holiness. Come from among them and be ye separate, says the Lord (2 Cor 6:17). But under Bishop Blake’s wayward leadership it has changed to “Let them in among you and be ye defiled.”
In July, GCM Watch reported that the Cleveland based Joint College of African American Pentecostal Bishops had released a strongly worded rejection of homosexual clergy. But now, new information reveals that Official Statement was simply an attempt to cover up the school’s knowing admission of an openly homosexual bishop.
O.C. Allen, founder of an Atlanta homosexual church attended and was certified by the school and is now wearing the school’s insignia.
Bishop J. Delano Ellis, his staff and roster of high powered, high profile bishops had been extremely silent and guarded as questions began to surface. Allen and his cadre of gay clerics sported the insignia of the JCAAPB during their 2012 meeting in Atlanta. Several ministers connected to the school said that Ellis was afraid of the controversy that might erupt if he publicly confronted Allen so he has remained silent, hoping it would not be noticed. But GCMW found out that Allen threatened to sue the school if it did not admit him.
The fiery voiced Ellis who started the college in 1993 along with Bishop Paul Morton, Bishop Wilbert McKinley, Bishop Roy Brown tout the organization as a place of rigorous training for those who operate in episcopal offices.
And according to its website the JCAAPB has ” grown into the premiere development center for the Episcopacy in the African American culture.”
The website says “The reputation of Archbishop J. Delano Ellis is well established as being a blend of compassion for leadership and a bulwark for legitimate and principled order for all episcopal issues.”
Central to the issue at hand, the “Official Statement on Homosexuality insisted that “The ordination of a practicing homosexual to any church office contradicts the clear mandate of God. Therefore, the Joint College will NEVER accept or bless same-sex unions of any kind or grant those living such a lifestyle Apostolic Succession into Holy Office.” (their italics)
But the official statement doesn’t address the problem which prompted it. In fact, the letter is a artful lie. The Joint College didn’t ordain Allen nor did they give him “apostolic succession”. That was never the real problem. But Ellis did deliver to Allen what he wanted: legitimacy. Fearful of a threat to sue, Ellis caved in and gave him what he wanted.
Orlando Short, Jr., an adjutant with Joint College told GCM Watch, ” The College was not legally ready for an openly gay bishop to come to the college. He was stopped at the door, but because of charter verbage, [sic] he would have been able to sue if we denied him. He was quiet the whole time there. While there, he bought patches and gave them to his bishops. Because of this the letter was drafted to let people know what we believe.”
GCMW contacted Ellis’ office for a statement, but none was forthcoming. Instead of Ellis being truthful publicly about the situation and in the process warning other leaders, he played along with the deception for the sake of image. Despite all of his fiery condemnation of homosexuality and homosexual clerics, Ellis and his school has lost its credibility as any legitimate guardian of the Pentecostal heritage.
Some see the situation as both an attack and a colossal failure on the organization’s part.
“Its a shame for the Joint College to issue such a powerful statement on the issue of homosexuality and then, even consider a practicing sexually immoral person to darken the doorsteps of an institution such as the Joint College of Bishops,” said Pastor Fred Rochester of Brooklyn, New York.
“The capitulation of the Joint College is another example of the LGBT (gay) agenda to get the true church of God to surrender by perverted infiltration, its absolute Biblical position and right to prevent those that practice sexual immorality a place at the table of truth. It is another attempt by homosexuals to further erode the pillar and ground of the truth into a pile of worthless rubble.”
Allen is a cohort of former pentecostal bishop Carlton Pearson who was rejected and branded a heretic by Ellis and the Joint College in 2004 for his doctrine of inclusion teaching. Allen and his homosexual religious organization are seeking legitimacy by association and the Joint College provided the perfect setting for both proxy revenge and the semblance of legitimacy he desired.
A former member of the Joint College, who asked not to be named summed up his disgust with Ellis’ gay bishop debacle. “This is a disgrace,” he said.
CLEVELAND – The nation’s foremost organization of African American pentecostal episcopates has released a statement rejecting the ordination, approval and acceptance of unrepentant homosexuals into Christian ministry. Despite increasing numbers of predominately white formerly mainline denominations capitulating to ordaining and consecrating open homosexuals, others are drawing a spiritual and policy-based line in the sand.
The Joint College of African American Pentecostal Bishops (JCAAPB) released a strongly worded statement via its website decrying “prejudice, bigotry and violence” against homosexuals, but maintaining a unwavering biblical position in the process.
The act of homosexuality is a sin according to God’s Word. God’s intent in creation was that male and female would be complimentary, that the privilege of sexual expression would be between male and female only, and this expression would be only in the context of marriage. Both heterosexual and homosexual sexual behavior outside of marriage violates the human spirit and distorts God’s intent for our lives. The Holy Scriptures condemn homosexual practices (Genesis 19:4-10; Leviticus 18:22; 30:13; Romans 1: 26-28; and First Timothy 1:8-10), and we follow this instruction and example of Jesus.
While the world systems are being continually affected by cultural and sociological changes, we will not compromise or deviate from the standards set by God. We do not endorse or consecrate homosexuals to the Holy Office of Bishop, or condone their ordination into Holy Office as Deacons or Elders (Priests), for to do so is both dishonoring to God and a betrayal of our Faith. The ordination of a practicing homosexual to any church office contradicts the clear mandate of God. Therefore, the Joint College will NEVER accept or bless same-sex unions of any kind or grant those living such a lifestyle Apostolic Succession into Holy Office.”
Headed by former COGIC official J. Delano Ellis, the Joint College first made news in April 2004 when it convened a special session on the so-called “gospel of inclusion” and declared it heresy and its chief advocate Carlton Pearson, a heretic [source].
The organization counts among its executive board COGIC Presiding Bishop Charles Blake, Sr, Bishop Alfred Owens, head of the Mt Calvary Holy Churches of America, Bishop Walter Thomas and Bishop Claude Alexander of Kingdom Association of Covenant Pastors.
Perhaps sensing that the firestorm over the issue was deeper and more pervasive than they thought it was, the denomination has now posted a much needed elaboration on its existing same sex policy. The church hardens its response as it should have done in the beginning.
The President’s position regarding “same-sex marriage” has set off a “firestorm,” unlike any other debate in our civil society, perhaps, since the civil rights unrest of the mid-20th century. The advocacy for same-sex marriage, while in conflict with our nation’s long-standing moral posture, has indeed, created opportunity for the Church to communicate our unequivocal position about God’s design and foundation for humanity, the biblical mandate for heterosexuality through the bonds of matrimony and, the centuries-old understanding of the only acceptable means of procreation, habitation, and the establishment of the family.
The President suggests same sex relationships and male-female relationships committed to by oath before God and/or witnesses, where formal documents are signed before a civil or ecclesiastical figure. It further implies that both are equally good and valuable. In addition to this, it suggests that both equally contribute to the good and advancement of a society. From a fundamental view of scripture, the same word should not be used to describe both same sex and heterosexual relationships.
The COGIC is right to place the blame on Obama for igniting this social wildfire only months before the election. Although he has used the church significantly to cloak his deceptive agenda in piousness, he has with the other hand passed more anti-religious freedom policies than any other president before him. What’s more Obama has actively worked to undermine and overthrow the biblical foundations on which the church operates. See our timeline on Obama’s false religious lifestyle.
Neither so called “marriage vows”, civil unions, nor homosexual drives or passions are recognized by the Bible as justifications or acceptable excuses or rationale for sexual acts between individuals of the same sex. Sinful desires and inclinations must be resisted and overcome by the power of God in Christ Jesus, and by power of the Holy Spirit who strengthens our minds and our wills.
Our vocabularies are made up of thousands of words because there are so many distinctive entities and concepts to be referred to. Each word designates a category of entities which are unique to that word. Specific words are most useful when they reflect identical images, and when they do not create conflicting or unclear images in the mind of the speaker and the hearer. The Bible defines marriage as a relationship between one man and one woman (Genesis 2:24; 1 Corinthians 7:2; 1 Timothy 3:2, 12; Titus 1:6). To define marriage otherwise is to dilute and destroy its usefulness as a word which denotes what is highest and best about human society.
The sole point where COGIC attempts to mitigate its opposition to homosexual marriage is found in the illogical –but oft used– statement “we recognize that in a free and democratic society morality cannot be legislated.” Morality can be and is legislated in our society. There are laws and legislation against prostitution, adult-child sex, rape, pornography, beastiality and more. All of these, as is homosexuality, are acts of immorality and the government, with the consent of the people, do legislate such actions.
In fact it is the responsibility of the state to legislate morality for the common good. If life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness for all is to be preserved, then we must legislate morality to a certain degree. The issue is can morality be effectively legislated. I believe it can, though there are numerous obstacles. Can the church legislate morality? Obviously not because it is not a political organization. But even that falls flat when one considers the responsibility of the church to restrain and restrict sin among its own members whose conduct can surely impact the society’s common good. Read a more detailed explanation of sexuality, legislation and morality from the Dunamis Word.
COGIC joins the Assemblies of God in speaking out with more force and authority against the President’s wicked statements.
