Black Gospel Music riding “new cart” apostasy

Black Gospel music has long been a draw to get people into the institutionalized church. Many people will come to a church to hear the choir sing before they will come to hear the preacher preach.  New competition shows like How Sweet the Sound are now elevating the spiritually nebulous choir to greater prominence as representatives of the black church, while sex and money scandals are diminishing the role of  the preacher.

GCM Watch has covered the rampant homosexuality entrenched in the Black Gospel music industry before here and  here .  However, you should be aware that industry workers are using the “new cart method” of traveling gospel music/comedy tours, gospel music artists appearing on late night talk-shows, and gospel music artists  partnering with ungodly secular artists allegedly to “reach the youth”.

What is new cart method? If you read 1 Chronicles 13 ,it tells how King David used a new cart to bring the ark of the covenant into Jerusalem,  following the pattern of the Philistines who used a new cart to transport the ark of the covenant. The Philistines didn’t know any better because they were unaware of the methods and restrictions of transporting the Ark which literally housed the presence of God.  As King, David should have known better, because Israel were covenant people.  The scripture records that as the ark was being moved it almost fell to the ground. But a man named Uzzah instinctively reached to steady it. When his hand touched it, he was killed instantly . Judgment was swift because King David didn’t seek the proper order of the Lord. Uzzah was the son of Abinadab where the ark of the covenant had been stored at his fathers house for years. He had been around the ark nearly all his life, however he was ignorant and didn’t understand that God required his commands to be followed to the letter. And in his zeal without knowledge it cost him his life.

Deadly mix: strange fire, gospel music and new carts

As reported by gcmwatch, you have Mary Mary toured with R&B artist Maxwell and made guest appearances on BET’s 106 and Park,  Kirk Franklin and Steve Harvey (yes the one with the profane mouth) are now together on a “gospel comedy tour”.  A slew of gospel music artists are now making foot kissing missions to the foul mouthed comedian Monique. Who are they?  Kirk Franklin Yolanda Adams, Marvin SappTye Tribbett , Deitrick Haddon, Vickie Winans, Bebe and Cece Winans, Shirely Caesar, David and Tamela Mann to name a few.

In the process of attempting to be relevant to the world, to make church hip and cool, the gospel music industry has put the glory of God on new carts to win the world’s acceptance. Instead of relying on the Holy Spirit to convict lost sinners in the world to repent and be saved, acceptance and false love seems to be the goal. Gospel music is a means to the end of achieving that acceptance.

Defending Mary Mary’s worldly partnerships, a person commenting on Facebook said, “the church needs more relevant music that would draw young people”. That’s a major error circulating with black gospel devotees. It elevates music/entertainment over Jesus Christ and over scripture as the guide for so-called evangelism. But didn’t Jesus say if “I be lifted up from the earth I will draw all men unto Him.” Church folk have lifted up their gospel idols more than Jesus Christ, and the results reflect that.  It has produced a spiritually shallow,  carnal minded Christians.  The new cart method creates opposition to Five-Fold ministry which is the proper order of the Church to equip and edify the saints. Utimately, God’s gifts are to bring the body of Christ to maturity so that we’re not tossed to and fro by every wind of doctrine. Music does have a place in the church, but it was not intended to  usurp the authority of Jesus Christ and his governmental gifts.

The proper order of music ministry

After the mess the gospel music industry has caused with its illegitimate “ministry”, concerned music ministers should seek to right the cart using God’s proper order within the Church.

1. Singers should sing unto the Lord, and should praise Him in the beauty of holiness(2 Chromicles 20:21). They should be separated from the world unto God. Both singers and musicians should have an inward disposition of reverence and purity, and resists all that offends the holy nature of God(1 Chronicles 16:29).

2. Songs sung in the House of God should be unto the Lord, and not for entertainment purposes to entertain the flesh and people(1 Chronicles 25:7). Songs that are sung should glorify God.

3.  True minstrels/musicians help set spiritual atmosphere for the supernatural which does not include thrill seeking song that appeal to the flesh (2 Kings 3:15).

4. Singing and the use of musical instruments being sung and played unto the Lord should be used for spiritual warfare (2 Chronicles 20:20-24; 1 Samuel 16:23).

5. The church should only accept  songs and music which are —like scripture— inspired by the  Holy Spirit ( Ephesians 5:19 ; 1 Chronicles 25:1-6).

6.  A difference between holy and unholy should always be the standard in music. Gospel music artist who claim to love God, should not partner with those who promote ungodliness, sexual immorality and use gratuitous profanity. (1 John 2:15-16 ; 2 Chronicles 19:2).

7.  The cult of celebrity should be destroyed as quickly as possible at its roots. True singers and musicians of God reflect Jesus and serve people, instead of  demanding service and accolades. (Mark 10:45).

8. Use singing and music to lead people into true sacrifice unto the Lord( Hebrews 13:15).

Pastors, leaders, church singers, and church musicians must repent from the new cart method, sanctify and follow the order of the Lord . To avoid God’s  judgment, HIS church must return to holy living.  Its a disgrace to our Lord to lead people into entertainment based false worship of people and gifts. Jesus wants back into your church. Now.

BET: COG confab “filled with Holy Spirit”

Los Angeles – Black Entertainment Television (BET), the gospel industry and its worker bees are getting together to congratulate themselves on another dismal year of  not standing up for Christ and not confronting their homosexual taskmasters (lovers and co-workers) behind the scenes. But there is sort of great news. According to BET they finally paid convinced the Holy Spirit he needed to show up and make more church folk think all the entertainment had something to do with the gospel. The Holy Spirit’s appearance might also make the cult of celebrity “celebration” of gospel extravaganza look, well…”anointed”.  That’s what their press release said so it must be true.

Legendary Vocalists Whitney Houston and Kim Burrell Amazed Audience Members with an Inspiring Performance of ‘I Look to You.’ Mary Mary, Kirk Franklin, Chaka Khan, El DeBarge, BeBe Winans, Bishop T.D. Jakes, Pastor Shirley Caesar, Kelly Price, LeAndria Johnson, Rance Allen Group, Israel Houghton, VaShawn Mitchell and More United for Gospel Music’s Biggest Night.

It was a night filled with the Holy Spirit and high notes reaching the heavens as audience members rejoiced at the CELEBRATION OF GOSPEL ’11. The two-hour special, premiering Sunday, January 30 at 8:00 p.m.*, paid tribute to the rich history of gospel music in a unique format that combined today’s leading gospel and secular artists. Hosted by popular comedian, author, game show host and syndicated radio personality Steve Harvey, the inspirational and uplifting presentation packed a powerful punch by some of the industry’s top players.

Taped from the historic Orpheum Theatre in Los Angeles, California, the CELEBRATION OF GOSPEL ’11 had memorable performances by fresh talent alongside current favorites of gospel. Highlights included Byron Cage, Smokie Norful, Kelly Price, and Kathy Taylor coming together for a moving tribute honoring the late “Queen of Gospel,” Albertina Walker, and beloved gospel pioneer Walter Hawkins; Kirk Franklin and Mary Mary debuting the world premiere of their new record; Chaka Khan serenading the crowd with her timeless classic, “Through the Fire”; Grammy-nominated® artist VaShawn Mitchell performing his chart-topping single “Nobody Greater”; James Fortune and FIYA belting out their rousing hit “I Believe”; and ending the night, a surprise performance of “I Look to You” by Kim Burrell  and Whitney Houston, which left audience members speechless!

The audience was also treated to performances by SUNDAY BEST alums LeAndria Johnson, Y’Anna Crawley and Jessica Reedy alongside R&B songstress Kelly Price, Howard Hewett, Earnest Pugh, Rance Allen Group, Chante Moore, Myron Butler, Jonathan Nelson and Purpose, Israel Houghton, and Beverly Crawford with Dr. Bobby Jones and the Spirit of David Choir.

Remember last year? BET did not like it that GCM Watch wasn’t onboard to praise the strange mix of “gospel music lovers” (which included a reality “star” who’s naked pictures were all over the internet). Unfortunately, nothing’s changed. To BET all are the same. Its like reverse diversity. Whether you are “secular” or “gospel”, there’s scant difference about you as long as you can “sang” and secure cash for them.  But perhaps BET is correct.  After all its Black entertainment television. The gospel performers are just performing, just like the secular performers just perform. Its all a performance show meant to entertain. But that brings us back to the beginning.  If the COG is just a show for performers of various performing hues, why would the Holy Spirit need to come?

And Shirley Ceasar still hasn’t renounced that bizarre and ironic song she recorded with Tonex/B.Slade/Anthony Williams. So Shirley, was everybody lying or did you really know the truth?  Maybe  you just deceived and wanted to look hip?

Blog says ‘Gospel’ singer DeWayne Woods serenades lesbian “wedding”

UPDATED 7:16am est [scroll down]

GCM Watch is working on confirming certain aspects of a story about a rather well known gospel industry worker and a lesbian wedding. Incidents such as these are going to increase and cause more upheaval in the church as gospel industry workers continue to sanctify homosexuality with their music and influence. For those whose faith is weak and for the great numbers of immature Christians, gospel celebrities at gay weddings will only add to the already massive confusion over the issue.

It was more or less and open secret that despite gospel industry worker DeWayne Woods‘ controversial testimony of healing from AIDS, something still didn’t add up about him. Woods came out of the Donald Lawrence gospel music stable and like many of the industry workers refused to renounce homosexuality. In March 2008, Woods had agreed to an interview with homosexual blogger Darian Aaron, then according to Aaron, backed out at the last minute. Whether the interview was to be Woods’ “coming out” debut isn’t known.

But now an email with pictures  allegedly sent to G. Craige Lewis’ Ex Ministries place Woods at a lesbian wedding in Atlanta, as the “guest psalmist”.

Ex Times posted the story —with pictures— November 10th but little outside attention was paid to it.

GCM Watch contacted Andrea Williams, president and founder of the Telilah Entertainment Group where Woods’ picture is currently featured prominently on its website as one of its featured clients.

But Williams was quick to deny that TEG connections with Woods…anymore. In an email to GCM Watch, Williams said, “I no longer represent Mr. Woods. DeWayne was never part of my company. We represented him briefly. We stopped representing him in 2008.”

GCM Watch also asked Williams if Tehilah Entertainment support artists on its roster performing at gay marriages, but she refused comment.

Pictures posted on ExTimes show pictures of the lesbian wedding officiated by an Atlanta gay cleric OC Allen, the women and a picture of a man in dark shades whom Ex Times identifies as Woods. But the picture is somewhat dark. And Ex Times did not confirm the source of the pictures. Obviously if they are pictures taken at a lesbian wedding, the picture taken would have been in attendance.

This isn’t the first time GCM Watch has informed you about Christians fornicating with gay weddings.  In August 2008, we reported that:

Wendy Gritter, the Exodus ministry leader in Canada (ironically called New Direction) who admitted to gay activists she doesnt agree with Exodus’ message of change from homosexual is now telling activists she would attend a homosexual “wedding.”  What’s more, Gritter said she would give the gay newlyweds a gift because “at the end of the day I believe loving people is what God asks of me.”

Gritter eventually left Exodus and is now progay. But far too many pastors and churches continue to act irresponsibly by not informing their congregations of what is at our doorstep. Like in the Sodom story, soon the activists will be banging at the doors of the church (despite the lies they have told to the contrary) demanding that church leaders marry them or else face “discrimination” lawsuits and loss of 501c3 status.

Earlier, we posted a poll asking if you as a Christian would attend a gay marriage ceremony. See the poll and register your response.

UPDATE

GCM Watch has confirmed that the man in the photo posted by ExTimes is Dwayne Woods. An alert reader sent us this picture showing Woods with OC Allen while wearing the same blue sweater vest, purple tie, dark suit and dark round glasses (see inset comparison).

Spiritual health advisory: AME pastor spreads deadly spiritual virus

Its our urgent duty to inform you that Dr. Teresa Brown, the assistant pastor at New Bethel AME church in Lithonia, GA is spreading a deadly disease called SIV.  The Spiritual Immunodeficiency Virus is a highly infectious spiritual disease which disables an individual’s ability to know truth and defend themselves against false teachings. The consequence is those who are infected, infect others and can kill the spirit. SIV is an equal opportunity killer and those who do not embrace God’s truth are at high risk.

Brown, also a professor at the Chandler School of Theology, told NBC’s progay, African American flavored newsblog The Grio multiple lies and distortions about homosexuality, the bible and the church [source].

The article itself attempts to do in the “black church” what political homosexual activists have done in the military with the Dont Ask, Dont Tell policy. As we have told you before, the church activists have the same agenda as the political activists. Tear down any and all barriers to homosexuals gaining unrestricted access to positions of power within the church.

Long before Clinton’s time, the same issue was alive and well within the black church, said Dr. Teresa Fry Brown, professor of Homiletics and director of Black Church Studies at the Candler School of Theology in Atlanta, GA. And it began not long after integration.

Prior to integration, during, say, the Harlem Renaissance, a person’s sexual identity was not an issue, Fry Brown said.

“That was what you did and who you were,” she said. “But the more we identified with other cultures, the more we would step on one another. We became so mind-alteringly obsessed with others’ sexuality. It made us turn on one another.”

At one time, the black church was the home of unity, love, and acceptance. It was the black church that served as the home of the civil rights movement. It was the black church that helped strengthen the black community. But then the obsession with sexuality made its way into the church — thanks to the influence of some conservative capital.

Who a person slept with and how they lived became a cause of critique — that is, except when it came to the choir director or minister of music, in many cases.

Cultural Lies

Dr. Brown’s first set of lies center on the revisioning of a historical/cultural period.  Considering Brown has multiple educational degrees, its rather disconcerting to see comments devoid of any evidence to support her wild claims.

First, Brown attempts to make the church and the Harlem Renaissance one and the same. They are not and if history is correct, the Harlem Renaissance occurred within the confines of a small area of New York and ended abruptly with the onset of the Great Depression. A person’s sexuality may not have mattered in the Cotton Club and to the “new negro” elites that rose to prominence during the decade, but there is zero evidence that one’s sexuality “wasnt an issue” in the church.

In fact back in March, GCM Watch published a story showing  Brown’s claim to be false. In November 1929, prominent Harlem minister Rev. Adam Clayton Powell Sr. published a series of sermons on sexual perversion. Powell said sexual perversion was steadily increasing in large American cities, particularly among women and ministers.  Powell, whose church which was a landmark  institution in Harlem, had seen the effects of homosexuality during  the HR era and knew that if the church was to survive, someone had to combat it.

What’s more, if black folk were so “obsessed” with other black folk’s sexuality, how can  Brown claim in the same thought group that a person’s sexuality didn’t matter to anyone else? It can’t be both.

Brown uses the same illogical argument the deceased John Boswell promoted in his book Christianity, Social Tolerance and Homosexuality. Boswell argued that  homosexuality was always accepted and celebrated within the church. That is until mysterious outsiders changed everything. That’s not only historically inaccurate, but shocking coming from a teaching theologian in an institution of higher learning. Read Greco-Roman history as well as the background of Paul’s letters to Corinth and Rome to get your bearings.

Church lies

While the church version of DADT is in full effect in some predominately African American churches, the same is true of its counterparts with other predominately racial makeups. Its part of a biblically unacceptable undercurrent of sin in the church that will eventually collide with the judgment of God.

Growing up with a mother who was a choir director in Kansas City, Fry Brown said the main critiques of the choir director were that he, or she, was either sleeping with all the women in the church (if they were a man), or was gay or living with their mother.  No one talked about the sexual identity of the choir directors then, but everyone knew about them. Labels like, “He’s special” or “She’s special” were always placed upon the director. But that was as far as it went.

Why?

“It is because of the importance of their role in the worship experience,” Collins said of choir directors. “It is because of the pure benefit that these men and women bring to the church. They are creative; gifted, and I dare to say…anointed at the highest level. They add to the religious experience. And when done with excellence, as many of these folk are capable of achieving, the church experience comes alive.”

“Showstoppers” is how Philip David Hill, minister of music of the Victory Church [article does not identify this church as a progay with a homosexual leaning pastor] in Stone Mountain, GA, describes many choir directors in the black church.

“It seems as though the most talented singers in the church, the most talented musicians in the church just happen to be gay,” he said. “I don’t know why that is. People go where they are most talented. It just is what it is.”

Hill said it is not a matter of trying to hide the fact that these individuals are gay. It just is not talked about.
But is it okay that their sexual identity not be addressed?
Fry Brown considers it an issue of integrity on the part of the pastor. She calls it a form of dehumanization. When she was entering ministry, she was told she could be a minister, but as a woman, could not cry because crying was seen as a sign of weakness. It was like asking her to not be who she was.

The same is being asked of individuals who are asked to hide their sexuality, she said.

Brown is joined by another apostate teacher who repeats the very questionable claim. He says “the most talented musicians in the church just happen to be gay”.  According to what survey? What statistics  bear out this out? Who determines what constitutes “the most talented”? And since when does “talent” become criteria for right relationship with God? Hill admits he has no factual evidence to back it up his assertions, but in the same breath passes it off as if it was written in stone.

One of the issues the church hasn’t resolved and probably never will is that it has allowed the worship of music to eclipse the worship of God and devotion to his Word. That’s why churches easily fall into the trap where they can be at the mercy of homosexual musicians et al. Churches that do put music and Word in proper priority don’t have the problem of  asking homosexuals to “hide their sexuality”.

Emotional lies

False teachers like Brown capitalize on the emotional brokenness of homosexuals. They stroke the flames of isolation, alienation and hatred of the truth by telling homosexuals they are being “discriminated” against by the church. But this is another odd irony. How can homosexuals (according to Brown and Hill) command the top positions, lead the top choirs, be hailed as the most talented, and at the same time be discriminated against?

“You want them to lead your choirs, entertain you every Sunday, but they have to hold back a portion of who they are,” Fry Brown said. “As long as you are making money for the church, they don’t care what you do as long as you don’t self identify.”

So why do the choir directors and/or ministers of music do it? Not necessarily for the money and their livelihood, but because alienation outweighs accountability, Fry Brown said.

“Love is one of our basic human needs; it is critical,” she said. “It is at the core of our humanity. When there’s a threat that love will be withheld, then we will be who we have to be to keep from losing that love.”

And while it is an issue that needs to be dealt with, it is not safe to say that this goes on in every black church, said Fry Brown. Geography and denomination are major factors in whether or not a “don’t ask, don’t tell” policy is present.

But the bible does discriminate, separate and judge! That’s why Brown is a false teacher sick with SIV and no better than the people she accuses of taking advantage of homosexuals in church. False teachers dont teach the truth, they teach a socialized, political version of the bible.

How does the AME Church allow someone like an assistant pastor to make such anti-bible statements with no consequences?  Brown should be quarantined from preaching by her denomination until she is healed of SIV.

Atlanta gospel artist reveals how he left homosexuality

You have to read this. And rejoice knowing our God is an awesome God.

With all the unseemly and sordid stories we have to report on about those who have blackened  gospel music, thank God for this courageous young man who gives God the glory for leading him out of homosexuality. Atlanta based singer/songwriter B. David shared his story with Christianity Today International and it is indeed riveting.

“When Christian music veteran Ray Boltz released a statement saying he was gay last fall, the announcement sent tidal waves of disbelief through the CCM world, shocking longtime listeners with his assertion, “If this is the way God made me, then this is the way I’m going to live.” The news prompted hundreds of related articles, messageboard threads and forum discussions on the topic of homosexuality and the church.

Gospel/worship artist B. David, whose own history of homosexuality and spiritual downward spiral hit rock bottom in 1997—which he calls “the worst year of my life”—shares in Boltz’ candidness, but not his convictions. “Some say, ‘I was born this way,’ and I don’t deny that at all. We are all born into sin,” he explains. “But we have a Savior.? There would be no reason for Jesus Christ if we were all OK.”

Presenting an alternative perspective of change through his own testimony of grace, the now-married father of three suggests, “The only way to break through this stuff is for people to expose themselves openly in front of congregations and in their spheres of influence.”

Realizing his own “sphere of influence” would greatly expand this year with the launch of his national recording debut, Life Journal, B. David remembers thinking, I’m starting to tell my testimony. People are really going to know who I am and what I am dealing with, alluding to the 6,000-plus congregants at Destiny Metropolitan Worship Church in Atlanta, where B. David serves as head worship leader. “But I have to be willing to [share my testimony] because my heart is for people to be free. My heart is for people to get more of God.”

I totally share the hopes of his heart. People need to be free and freedom comes only when God’s truth is brought center stage. Read the entire story here. B. David below singing “Believe”. I hope that B. David’s testimony and courage will jump start inspiration in other gospel artists to tell the truth about where God has brought them from. People really need to know and see this much more often. There is no overcoming in silence. We overcome by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of our testimony.
